General

I have over ten years of experience working in a hospital setting in various responsible positions.  I am accustomed to balancing multiple priorities.  As an RN I find making a positive impact on patients and their families very rewarding.  My extensive tenure in EMS/Rescue has given me a unique insight into the total range of patient experience.  I have delivered care in the pre-hospital setting, in the ER, to in-patients on the unit, and following discharge.

I have a life long commitment to team building.  I have a reputation for being friendly and competent at work and in the community.  I graduated from the WKU nursing program first in my class academically.  I am competent with a computer, web design, and my writing skills are adequate.  I can grow a garden, play jazz flute, make anything out of wood, tie a broom, comfort a child, and tune a piano.  My primary professional interest area is the delivery of emergency care.

Employment History

1996-Current -  The Medical Center at Bowling Green:
Registered Nurse, Emergency Department:
Provider of advanced life support and emergency nursing care for patients presenting with a wide variety of illness and injury, including trauma and cardiac patients.  The Medical Center Emergency Department receives the most critical cases from many counties in South/Central Kentucky.  I also have a year's experience working on the Orthopedic/Neurology  unit at The Medical Center.

1998-Current - Rivendell Psychiatric Hospital:  Psychiatric Nurse - Although it is often difficult to differentiate me from the patients (my age helps), I provide nursing care to up to 20 patients on the adolescent unit who present with poly-substance abuse and general psychiatric diagnoses.

1988-1995 - Cumberland County Hospital: Director of Emergency Medical Services:
As a Department Director, I was responsible for all aspects of operation for our hospital based EMS System, including hiring, making and meeting an annual departmental budget, purchasing equipment, and chairing the hospital Safety Committee.  I began my tenure as an EMT, advancing through the ranks until I was appointed EMS Director in 1994.  I also served as Director of Safety and Risk Management for seven years.  I provided continuing education for EMT’s and nursing staff.

Training and Education

I have taken (and continue to take) numerous continuing education offerings in Critical Care, Emergency, and Psychiatric nursing, as well as EMS/Rescue related courses.  I am certified to teach numerous related subjects.
